The prefect initiatives for the 2026-2027 school year have officially started. On Saturday, May 2nd, Uche Molokwu ‘27 hosted a tea party at Lower School in support of people suffering from gender violence. There were food, drinks, and other activities to make this tea extra special!

The event was set up beautifully in Williams Hall, and the organizers clearly put a lot of work into it. Each detail was well thought out and presented flawlessly. The first thing you did upon arrival was sign in and find your assigned seat. Each attendee had a seat with their name on it, though attendees could move their name tag around and switch with other people if you wanted to. On each table was a presentation of perfectly baked macaroons, sweet cupcakes, a small batch of berries, and, to balance the sweet out, a savory collection of charcuterie meats, cheese, and crackers. Every element had a delicious and flavourful flair. Students could get up at any time to get juice, tea, coffee, or hot water. Aesthetically, it was a very well put together event that felt exactly as a tea party should: a mix of elegant and cheerful.

But this event had a deeper connection; to gender equality and gender-based violence throughout the world. To support this cause, there was a small entrance fee and an open raffle for everybody who attended. Some of the raffle prizes were Aritzia clothing, a Starbucks gift card, a Stanley water bottle, and so much more. Many people bid on items, funding resources for people suffering from gender violence. Uche also spoke briefly on the scope and impact of the work she was doing for this cause. Raising funds and setting up this event itself is a big feat to take on, and I’m sure Uche and her team spent a lot of time making this event as outstanding as it was. At the end, the team had raised $1233 for sexual assault and gender-based violence awareness.

Uche did a brilliant job at this fundraiser. It was well thought out down to each place setting. It was an event to be proud of and truly outstanding. It’s clear that so much effort went into this project, and it really paid off. It was a huge success!
