Model United Nations, known as MUN, is an inspirational club made to challenge delegates on real world problems. Delegates get to dress formal and attend conferences that cover different United Nations topics. At the conference held in Vancouver, B.C. over 20 Ridleians from the Ridley Model United Nations club got to experience the wonders of the city as well as to challenge themselves at the conference that was held from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m every day. Students stayed at the Hyatt Regency and had 5 days to make the most of their time there!

As a student that attended the conference, I can confidently say that the whole trip was filled with lots of fun, time on the ice, and learning!

Something that I think we all took home (other than takeout boxes of carbonara) would be a passion for debate. So much so that on the way home from the restaurant, people started to open debates about a bunch of unrelated things, like how the pasta was overcooked and that they should’ve gotten the steak instead. Not to mention the insane amount of photos and videos taken from the party that was held by the conference sponsors, it was overall a very adventurous experience!

Personally, I’d encourage all students to join the Model UN club and participate in these conferences as it not only builds the foundation of your literacy and public speaking skills, but you also make really great like-minded friends along the way!
