It was a cold Friday afternoon… but that did not affect the spirit of our Upper School Ridleians! All nine houses showed up in high spirits, ready to take on the competition and sports day!

Following the award ceremony for the class of 2025, our upper schoolers attended their house meetings to kick off this fun Friday. After changing into house spirit wear, everyone attended a special BBQ lunch in the Great Hall, gearing up to show their spirit on the field. Sports Day here we come!

Before the events, Sports Day began with the chimes challenge in front circle at 12:30. There were two major categories of games: field and track events. The seniors – grades 11 and 12 – alternated with the juniors – grades 9 and 10 – in the events. The seniors did track, as the juniors took on the field, and vice versa. We had 100m, 400m, and all the way to 800m for senior sprints – get that blood pumping!

Juniors had 100m and 400m, which was just as exhilarating to watch. But fans, that was not all. Sports day had many more activities, including 3-legged race, wheelbarrow race, beanbag target tosses and so much more! One of my personal favourites was the team relay. Go team spirit!

The sprint events took place on the asphalt instead of grass this year due to the rain. That certainly didn’t make a difference for our competitors, who were as fast as ever.

Finally, across the field, it was time for the annual Tug of War! Stakes were high, as our Ridleians shouted their house chants, eagerly supporting their housemates. It was a close call, with Mandeville and Deans taking the win. Go Ducks and Knights!

The best part of sports day was one last event with our beloved seniors. Majority of the graduating class came down, ready to compete one last time as part of their own Ridley houses, before their big ceremony the next day. They may be leaving the campus, but you know what they say… “Once a Tiger… always a Tiger!”

Like all others, this Sports Day was just as special and successful despite the weather. This was truly the best way to end the year and bid goodbye to the Class of ’25.
